EVER SINCE Kensington Palace announced on January 17 that Catherine, Princess of Wales would be taking some time away to recover from a "planned abdominal surgery"  the internet has been rife with speculation and bizarre theories.

While the palace has maintained the princess is fine and will be taking a form of leave from royal engagements until Easter, it hasn't stopped some people on X (Twitter) and TikTok from theorising about Kate's "disappearance." While much of the commentary was in jest, with suggestions ranging from Kate appearing on The Masked Singer, being in hiding due to badly-cut bangs,or that she's, in fact, the anonymous British graffiti artist, Banksy-many have shared there views online about the palace covering up important information.

And then, of course, the release of a "manipulated" photograph of the princess with her children on Mother's Day (more on that here) on March 10 only added to the online hysteria and memes. Kim Kardashian even jokingly got in on the conversation, captioning a recent Instagram post, "On my way to go find Kate."

To help you keep track of all the "Katespiracies"  or, give you a laugh  we've rounded up all of the #KateGate rumours circulating the web currently.

Conspiracy one: A lookalike has been posing as Kate during recent sightings

After months out of the public eye, Kate was finally spotted on March 18. Per a front-page spread in The Sun  which also included a video shared online, she was joined by Prince William while visiting to a local farm shop.

However, the viral clip of the princess didn't satisfy everyone. Some royal watchers voiced a theory that the woman in The Sun's video isn't Kate, but a lookalike standing in for her. Specifically, many suggested the woman in the video is actually Heidi Agan, who has worked as a Kate Middleton lookalike appearing at events and on television-since 2012.

Despite speculation, Agan has, in fact, come out and quashed rumours. She told The Mirror she was actually at work on the day the video was filmed and "100 per cent" believes it is Kate in the clip.

There has obviously been some speculation about whether it was Kate and William in that footage and stills, Agan shared to the publication. In fact, my own social media has gone crazy as people think it is me, but I know it is not.

Conspiracy two: King Charles is abdicating

Given that Kate's absence coincides with the announcement that King Charles III is undergoing treatment for cancer, some theorists have put two and two together  thinking she might be taking an extra long break before possibly becoming queen.

While rumours about Charles abdicating have been circulating since the King's diagnosis was revealed on February 4, Kate's absence has only increased speculation the 75-year-old will be stepping down.

Conspiracy three: Kate Middleton has gotten plastic surgery

One of the more rampant rumours circulating on X and TikTok is that the princess has had plastic surgery.

While some joked about her getting a BBL (Brazilian butt lift), others have since taken the idea of cosmetic surgery more seriously  suggesting the princess has gotten a facelift or fillers.

Conspiracy four: Kate Middleton's surgery was more serious than planned

Perhaps, one of the more plausible theories is that Kate's "planned abdominal surgery" was way more serious than the palace has let on. While multiple sources have maintained her condition is not cancer-related, some have speculated she might have had more serious, unforeseen implications related to her procedure.

Conspiracy five: Kate Middleton is in a coma

With the above health claims in mind, some have theorised Kate Middleton might even be in a coma.

Back in January, Spanish journalist Concha Calleja alleged that the princess had been placed in a medically induced coma in relation to a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) and that they had to intubate her when she suffered serious complications during the post-operative period.

Members of the Spanish press have continued to report that as fact, despite the palace dismissing it.

A spokesperson from Kensington Palace told the Times of London: No attempt was made by that journalist to fact-check anything that she said with anyone in the household. It's fundamentally, totally made up, and I'll use polite English here: It's absolutely not the case.

Conspiracy six: Kate and William are getting divorced

Given that Kate wasn't wearing her wedding ring in the doctored Mother's Day photo, some have speculated that she and William are headed for divorce.

The theory follows countless rumours of infidelity, in which the Prince of Wales reportedly had an alleged affair with model, Lady Rose Hanbury. Even the The Late Show host Stephen Colbert joked about William having an "affair" during a recent episode of his talkshow. "The kingdom has been all a flutter by the seeming disappearance of Kate Middleton. Well now, internet sleuths are guessing that Kate's absence may be related to her husband and the future King of England William having an affair, Colbert shared.

While the affair rumours first began in 2019, the palace has never commented on it. Discover more about the reports here.

Conspiracy seven: Kate Middleton is dead

There is no reason to believe this is true and it is one of the more outlandish theories, but some social media users are sharing "evidence" that they deem proves the princess has passed away.

Some have even compared the situation to the unsubstantiated, evergreen conspiracy that her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, was murdered by the Royal Family.

Conspiracy eight: Kate Middleton is Banksy

While the identity of the famous, anonymous street artist has never been officially confirmed since he/she emerged in the late '90s, some X users pointed out that as Banksy hasn't released any new artwork since Kate disappeared-the Princess of Wales must be mastermind behind the pseudonym.

So, where is Kate Middleton?

To reiterate, the palace has said the princess would likely be taking time away from public engagements until after Easter while she recovers from surgery.

The Princess is in good spirits, the palace told Bazaar.com on January 28.

Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter, Kensington Palace explained during an Instagram Post, which revealed Kate's surgery.
