Baldur's Gate 3 is teasing a Vampire Survivors crossover
A very unlikely team-up is being hinted at by Larian Studios, but would it mean Vampire Survivors in Baldur's Gate 3 or the other way round?
Considering it's not even a year old we're still yet to see what the surprise success of Baldur's Gate 3 means for the franchise, and for developer Larian Studios.
You'd assume that Larian would be given carte blanche to do whatever they want with the Dungeons & Dragons licence, but we'll have to wait and see on that as publishers can sometimes react very oddly to unexpected hits.
So far, there's no clue about a follow-up and Larian's DLC plans have been very modest, with the biggest addition being a new epilogue. But now they're teasing a Vampire Survivors crossover, but does that mean (more) vampires in Baldur's Gate 3 or Astarion in Vampire Survivors?
The tease came from a Twitter post by Larian boss Swen Vincke, who posed the question: 'Should Baldur's Gate 3 and Vampire Survivors collaborate?' His two possible answers were 'Yes' and 'F*** yes'.
Directly below this was a photo of him with Vampires Survivor senior marketing manager Geo Morgan, with the pair appearing to have run into each other at GDC (Game Developers Conference), which is going on at the moment.
There's no more information than that, so it could just be some kind of joke or spur of the moment comment.
Assuming it's something they actually want to do, it seems much more likely that Baldur's Gate 3 characters would appear in Vampire Survivors, rather than the other way around.
So far, the only crossover Vampire Survivors has had is with Among Us, but Baldur's Gate 3 seems a much more obvious match – especially as one of the main characters actually is a vampire.
For those not familiar with the games, Baldur's Gate 3 is an incredibly complex computer role-playing game, while Vampire Survivors is an incredibly simply arena-based shooter – kind of like a dual stick shooter on autopilot.
It is very good though and won Best Game at the 2023 Bafta video game awards, even if that's probably going a bit overboard with the praise.
At least that means the games have something extra in common though as, given the number of nominations it's picked up, Baldur's Gate 3 is almost certainly going to win at this year's awards.
