ZZ Top fans are only just learning what the band's name actually means after more than 50 years
They might have found fame over 50 years ago, but fans of ZZ Top are still discussing the iconic Texan rock band and how they chose their memorable name. The group, which was formed in Houston in 1969, consisted of vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard, and bassist-vocalist Dusty Hill for 51 years until Hill's death in 2021. Gibbons, now 75, formed ZZ Top after his group Moving Sidewalks disbanded after three years in 1969 - and it seems he's to thank for their unique name.
