Utah's Hogle Zoo is mourning the loss of one of its black-footed cats - a four-year-old male by the name of Ryder. Once billed as the zoo's 'black-footed cat bachelor,' he died on July 22 following a brief but severe bout with kidney disease. He had resided at the zoo since 2021, after being sent from San Diego at the advice of the Black-footed Cat Consortium, a species survival organization dedicated to the conservation of the small class of cat.
