Kris Jenner's family has rallied around her after she shared a devastating tribute to her sister, Karen Houghton, who died 'unexpectedly' at the age of 65.

The Kardashians star confirmed the news of her loss on Instagram, sharing a string of photos of her sibling over the years with their mother, Mary Jo 'MJ' Shannon.

'It is with the heaviest heart and deepest sadness that I share that my sister Karen passed away yesterday unexpectedly,' she began the lengthy message.

'My heart aches for my mom MJ and my niece Natalie and I pray that God guides us all through this difficult time.

'Karen was beautiful inside and out. She was the sweetest, kindest, the most sensitive and vulnerable and so so funny. She always felt grateful and thankful for her life and treasured her family and friends and especially her beautiful daughter.

'She holds such a huge part of my heart and I cherish every single memory we have together.'

Kris concluded the post: 'Karen's passing is a reminder that life is so short and precious and tomorrow is never promised. We must tell those we cherish how much we love them.

'I love you my beautiful sister.'

Fans were quick to offer the momager their love and support in the comments beneath her post.

Her youngest daughter, Kylie Jenner, simply wrote: 'I love you mommy.'

Kris' third daughter Khlo Kardashian shared the same message as the Lip Kit founder.

Xmna93 shared: 'So so sorry Kris, your sister was beautiful.'

Karen's cause of death has not been confirmed.

According to TMZ, she was reported as deceased to San Diego County officials on Monday, with details surrounding the news currently unclear.

Karen was born to MJ and Robert Houghton in 1958 arriving three years after Kris.

The outlet reports that the siblings grew up in San Diego together and lived mostly with their mom.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Natalie, who she shares with ex-husband Mark Zettel.

Despite being part of one of the most famous families in the world, very little is known about Karen who previously had a fraught relationship with her sister.

She previously told DailyMail.com that she had run-ins with Kris, and has 'called her' sibling, 'yelling at her' over issues with their mom.

Speaking to the outlet in 2014, she alleged: 'I called up Kris yelling at her, because I was like, "You need to help your mom more and you know it."

Karen's daughter, Natalie, shared a snap from 2019, showing that the family drama had been squashed (Picture: Instagram)

'And I think that she kind of got the message. I was screaming – I don't even care.'

Karen's daughter appeared to confirm that they had buried the drama on Instagram five years later.

In a snap Natalie posted on her social media page from Christmas, 2019, they could be seen smiling together in front of a tree, joined by MJ and Kylie.
