A significant overhaul of the PS5 dashboard looks to be imminent, with the new UI apparently already being beta tested in the US.

Sony hasn't been the talkative sort for a while now but officially there's been nothing from them about a revamped user interface for the PlayStation 5 dashboard, and yet one does seem to be on the way.

A PlayStation YouTuber has recently uploaded a video showing the new UI in great detail, highlighting changes such as being able to change the background image to whatever you want.

The Explore page now also shows trophies, controller and headset battery life, and the amount of storage space left. Plus, you can customise the content to focus on the types of games you play, although you can't move the new widgets around wherever you want.

According to YouTuber Mystic, the update is in beta in the US, although so far there's been no reports of it by anyone else.

At the moment, the Explore page is mostly filled with game news, which Mystic refers to as adverts, so it's surprising that Sony would want to get rid of that.

However, you can choose from a variety of different layout styles, with one dedicated to showing information for single-player games, and another for multiplayer titles.

The logic behind the 'Top Rated' preset isn't entirely obvious but it does seem to add in back some of the news content.

Although it's far from a complete revamp, the changes seem useful, with the only notable problem being that you can't import images from a USB drive, to use as your backdrop – you seem to have to use screenshots you've already taken and are in the Media Library.

Mystic is almost certainly not meant to be showing any of this in public, so there's a chance the video could be taken down by the time you read this.

Either way, it's likely that the update will be officially announced, and released, quite soon, as judging by the footage it all seems to be working perfectly already.
