Oscars 2024 LIVE – Al Pacino breaks silence on 'offensive' award controversy & reveals reason for 'anticlimactic' moment
AL Pacino has addressed the controversy surrounding his bizarre presentation of the Best Picture award at the 2024 Oscars.
Legendary actorPacino, 83, didn't read out the nominees before announcing that his "eyes saw" Oppenheimer on the card.
"Al Pacino's Oscar announcement of best picture was the most chaotic, confusing, and anticlimactic moment of an otherwise enjoyable award show," one viewerslammedonX, formerly known as Twitter.
But the Godfather star says it wasn't his decision to omit the nominees and he was just doing what the Academy Award ceremony producers asked him to.
"I just want to be clear it was not my intention to omit them, rather a choice by the producers not to have them said again since they were highlighted individually throughout the ceremony," Pacino told TMZ.
"I realize being nominated is a huge milestone in one's life and to not be fully recognized is offensive and hurtful."
Oppenheimer took home Best Picture after sweeping seven of the 13 categories it was nominated in – including Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr.
